Do all browsers support AVIF?

Is AVIF better than WebP?
AVIF usually compresses further than WebP at the same quality, but takes noticeably longer to encode. For most web use, AVIF wins on file size; WebP has slightly broader legacy support.
Are my images uploaded?
No — the conversion runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly.
Why does AVIF encoding take longer than JPEG or WebP?
AV1’s compression is more computationally intensive to encode than JPEG or WebP, which is the tradeoff for its smaller output — decoding (viewing) an AVIF is fast either way.
What quality setting should I use for AVIF?
AVIF’s quality scale is more efficient than JPEG’s — a mid-range setting often looks as good as a much higher JPEG quality at a fraction of the size. Start around the default and compare visually.
Does converting to AVIF lose more quality than staying JPEG?
It can’t restore detail the JPEG already lost, but at a reasonable quality setting AVIF preserves that same visual quality in a smaller file.
Can I convert an AVIF back to JPG later?
Yes — use the AVIF to JPG converter if you need to open the image in software that doesn’t support AVIF yet.
